Cable Selection Guide

Cable quality can be damaged by unsuitable lengths, drums, moisture protection or loading even when the product leaves the factory correctly. Packaging, marking, documentation and delivery planning should therefore be agreed as part of the technical order.

Quick Answer

Specify cable length and packing method before production. Small building wires may use coils or reels; power and fiber cables normally use drums sized for cable diameter, weight and bending radius. Every package should be traceable to the model, size, length and production record. Export packing must match handling, container and destination requirements.

Coils, Reels and Drums

Building wire may be packed in coils, plastic reels, cartons or project-specific retail packs. Larger power, control, rubber and fiber cables are commonly supplied on wooden, steel-wood or steel drums. Drum barrel diameter must respect minimum bending radius, and flange strength must support the cable weight. State whether drums are returnable, treated for export or required to meet destination rules.

Production Length and Tolerance

Standard coil and drum lengths improve efficiency, while project lengths can reduce joints during installation. Long lengths may be limited by cable weight, drum dimensions, transport clearance and container loading. Confirm permitted length tolerance, whether each drum may contain one continuous length and how partial lengths will be handled. Medium-voltage and fiber routes often require a drum schedule.

OEM Marking and Private Label

OEM options can include sheath printing, company name, cable model, voltage, size, standard, metre marking, label, carton and drum stencil. Buyers must provide approved artwork and exact wording before production. Certification marks may only be used when the product and authorization scope permit them. Packaging must never imply an approval that the specific product does not hold.

Inspection and Shipping Documents

Typical documents may include packing list, commercial invoice, certificate of origin, bill of lading data, test report and approved technical data sheet. Tender projects may request third-party inspection, witnessed testing or photographs before dispatch. These requirements should be identified at quotation stage because they affect schedule and cost.

Container Loading and Delivery

Drums must be secured against rolling, flange damage and water exposure. Loading plans consider drum dimensions, weight, forklift or crane access and container limits. Destination port, Incoterm, customs requirements and consignee information must be confirmed. For Nigeria and other African markets, buyers should identify port, clearing documents and any applicable conformity requirements early. Explore our cable product portfolio.

Information to Send for an Accurate Quotation

Provide product model, size, quantity, required continuous length, coil/reel/drum type, drum treatment, label and printing artwork, test and inspection documents, Incoterm, destination port, container preference, delivery deadline and consignee-specific requirements.

Six Details to Confirm Before Production

Late changes to marking or drum length can affect manufacturing, packing and shipment timing. These six points are confirmed before the order goes into production.
