Medium Voltage Cable 6–35 kV
XLPE-insulated medium voltage power cable manufactured in Liaocheng, China. We supply 6 kV through 35 kV — copper or aluminium conductor, single or three core, armoured or unarmoured — built against your project specification and type-tested as a complete construction.
§01 — Voltage matrix
Choose the rated voltage that matches your system.
The cable you need is determined by the system’s maximum operating voltage and the earthing method — not by the voltage label alone. Select your rating:
§02 — Standards
One cable, multiple standards.
Designed against IEC 60502-2 and manufactured to GB/T 12706.2. British BS 6622, IEC 60332 flame-retardant and CPR-rated versions are produced against confirmed project specification. Standards printed on the sheath and drum card match what your inspector will check.
§03 — Cable construction
Nine layers, each with a specific engineering function.
Buyers who specify MV cable by voltage alone often end up with the wrong cable. The metallic screen cross-section, insulation screen bonding method, bedding under the armour and longitudinal water-blocking are all decided at construction stage.
| # | Layer | Function |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Class 2 stranded conductor (Cu / Al) | Carries load current. Compact round (RM) standard; sector-shaped (SM) for large 3-core cross-sections. |
| 02 | Conductor screen (inner semiconducting layer) | Eliminates air gaps at the conductor surface; prevents partial discharge at the conductor/insulation interface. |
| 03 | XLPE insulation | Triple-extruded cross-linked polyethylene. Rated 90 °C continuous, 250 °C short-circuit (5 s max). |
| 04 | Insulation screen (outer semiconducting layer) | Provides a smooth equipotential surface and bonding surface for the metallic screen. |
| 05 | Metallic screen (CWS / CTA) | Carries fault current to earth; cross-section sized per IEC 60502-2 (typically ≥ 16 mm² Cu for 11 kV). |
| 06 | Inner sheath / bedding | Bedding for the armour and moisture barrier; PVC ST2 standard. |
| 07 | Armour (STA / SWA / AWA) | Mechanical protection: STA for direct burial, SWA for high tensile load, AWA for single-core to limit eddy loss. |
| 08 | Serving (optional) | Anti-corrosion wrap between armour and sheath on certain designs. |
| 09 | Outer sheath (PVC ST2 / PE / LSOH) | UV, moisture and abrasion resistance. PVC ST2 standard; PE ST7 for long direct-buried routes; LSOH for tunnels and indoor. |

§04 — How to choose
Three questions decide the right cable before you ask for a price.
What is the system voltage and earthing method?
The cable U₀ must be ≥ the system highest phase-to-earth voltage under all conditions including earth-fault. A 10 kV solidly-earthed system needs 6/10 kV cable (U₀ = 6 kV); the same 10 kV on an unearthed system may need 8.7/15 kV. Send the earth-fault factor with your inquiry.
Where will the cable run, and what loads will it carry?
Installation method (direct burial, duct, tray, aerial) decides armour and sheath. Load current, ambient temperature, soil thermal resistivity and grouping decide the required conductor cross-section.
Single core or three core?
Single core is standard above ~400 mm² and for higher current ratings. Three core is standard for utility distribution up to 33 kV and most industrial intake.
§05 — Manufacturing & testing
Real processes, not just certificates.
Our MV extrusion line is triple-extrusion with dry-curing CCV. Routine tests are performed on every drum; sample tests and type tests run against IEC 60502-2 at our in-house laboratory, witnessed by CNAS-accredited third-party labs for new constructions.

§06 — FAQ
What overseas buyers ask before they sign the order.
What is the difference between U₀/U and Uₘ, and which one should we specify?
U₀/U is the cable design voltage (phase-to-earth / phase-to-phase). Uₘ is the system maximum operating voltage. Per IEC 60502-2, cable U₀ must be ≥ the system highest phase-to-earth voltage under all operating conditions including earth-fault. Send the system nominal voltage AND the earth-fault factor and we confirm the cable class.
Can you supply 11 kV cable with BS 6622 sheath marking for UK projects?
Yes. We manufacture to BS 6622 against confirmed PO. Sheath marking, drum card and routine test report format follow the UK utility inspection practice.
What is the minimum bending radius during installation?
Armoured multi-core MV cable: 12 × overall diameter for single bending, 15 × D for repeated bending. Single-core armoured: 15 × D / 18 × D respectively (IEC 60502-2 installation guidance).
Can you provide third-party inspection before shipment?
Yes — SGS, BV, TÜV, Intertek and CCIC are the most common for export orders. Pre-shipment inspection typically covers construction check, routine electrical test, marking and drum condition.
What is the typical lead time for a 20 km MV drum order?
25–35 working days for stocked 6/10 kV and 8.7/15 kV constructions after PO confirmation; 40–55 working days for 33 kV class or project-specific constructions.
Send the cable schedule. We confirm the construction in 24 hours.
Share: voltage class, conductor material & size, core count, armour type, sheath material, installation method, total length and drum preference. The clearer the spec, the faster the technical confirmation.
