ARMOURED POWER CABLE · 0.6/1 kV · YJV22 / YJLV22 · IEC 60502-1
YJV22 Steel-Tape Armoured Power Cable — for direct burial.
XLPE-insulated, steel-tape armoured, PVC-sheathed 0.6/1 kV power cable for direct-buried distribution and mechanically exposed routes. Copper (YJV22) or aluminium (YJLV22), 1.5–400 mm², up to 5 cores.
§01 — Construction
What the armour does, layer by layer.
| Layer | Material | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Conductor | Cu / Al, class 1 solid or class 2 stranded (sector-shaped ≥ 25 mm²) | Load current |
| Insulation | XLPE, 90 °C rated | Electrical insulation, one class above PVC |
| Bedding | Extruded PVC | Protects insulation under the armour |
| Armour | Double galvanized steel tape (STA), helical | Crush, impact and rodent protection for buried routes |
| Outer sheath | PVC ST2 black (PE / LSZH optional) | Moisture, UV and abrasion resistance |

Burial rules that matter
Minimum bending radius 12 × OD (single bend). Bed the cable on 100 mm sieved soil, cover with 100 mm sand plus protective tiles or warning tape, bury ≥ 0.7 m (deeper under roads and frost lines).
Full installation guide ships with the drums.
§02 — When armoured, when not
YJV vs YJV22 — the two-line decision.
| Route condition | Recommended type | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cable tray / ladder rack, indoor | YJV (unarmoured) | Lighter, cheaper, easier to terminate |
| Direct burial in soil | YJV22 / YJLV22 | STA protects against backfill stones, settlement and rodents |
| Duct banks with sharp bends | YJV22 preferred | Armour takes the pulling and crush abuse |
| Vertical riser with long drop | YJV32 (steel wire) | SWA carries the cable’s own weight — ask for the 32 variant |
| Single-core AC circuits | YJV62 / YJV72 (non-magnetic) | Aluminium tape/wire armour avoids magnetic heating — confirm in RFQ |

§03 — FAQ
Common questions on armoured power cable.
Steel tape (STA) vs steel wire (SWA) armour — which one?
STA (YJV22) for direct burial and general mechanical protection — it resists crush but not longitudinal pull. SWA (YJV32) for vertical drops, suspension and routes under tensile load. For single-core AC cables, specify non-magnetic aluminium armour (YJV62/72) to avoid eddy-current heating of the armour.
Can YJV22 be laid in water or flooded ground?
Yes with the PE sheath option (ST7) — PVC sheath is fine for damp soil, but for permanently wet routes and water-logged ground we recommend the PE outer sheath and sealed end caps. State the water table condition in the RFQ.
What is the DC resistance and how do we check ampacity?
DC resistance follows IEC 60228 (e.g. 185 mm² Cu ≤ 0.0991 Ω/km, 185 mm² Al ≤ 0.164 Ω/km). Ampacity depends on soil thermal resistivity, burial depth, grouping and ambient temperature — we issue a project-specific rating with the formal offer, against your installation conditions.
Is YJV22 available with LSZH sheath?
Yes — WDZ-YJY22 combines the STA armour with a low-smoke halogen-free sheath for tunnels and occupied buildings. Smoke and halogen verified against IEC 61034 / IEC 60754.
