§01 — Cable construction

The reference construction, layer by layer.

Typical three-core screened and armoured construction for the 6.35 / 11 kV class. Metallic screen cross-section and bedding thickness are confirmed against the cable schedule before production.

Technical data — reference only. Figures in the tables below are reference values for early-stage project comparison. Conductor size, insulation and sheath thickness, overall diameter, DC resistance and ampacity are confirmed against the approved cable schedule and the applicable standard (IEC 60502-2 / GB/T 12706) before production. Ampacity is quoted for installation in free air at 40 °C ambient; ratings for buried, in-conduit or tray installation differ. Dimensional and electrical tolerances follow the relevant standard.

§03 — Standards

Standards printed on the sheath and on the drum card.

§03b — International equivalence

11 kV cable: IEC 60502-2 vs BS 6622 vs the ICEA/AEIC family.

Most 11 kV tenders name one of three standard families, and they are not interchangeable. We build the conductor, XLPE insulation, screen and armour to whichever one your specification calls up, and we print that designation on the drum card.

IEC / GB

IEC 60502-2 · GB/T 12706.2

The reference for most European, Middle-East, South-Asian and African grids. Covers the 6/10 kV and 6.35/11 kV classes up to Uₘ 36 kV. Screen and armour per the project schedule; verifiable by routine test on every drum.

BRITISH

BS 6622 · BS 7835 (LSZH)

The standard written into UK, Australian, Gulf and many African distribution specifications. BS 6622 covers the armoured thermosetting constructions; where low-smoke zero-halogen is required the equivalent sheath standard is BS 7835. Confirm your schedule and we map it across.

NORTH AMERICA

ICEA S-10634 · AEIC CS8 · UL 1072

US and Canadian projects normally reference the ICEA / AEIC family with 100 %, 133 % or 173 % insulation levels — a field IEC does not use. Give us the insulation level and the AWG/kcmil size and we translate it into the IEC metric construction.

Structural descriptions you can specify directly: 3 core 185 mm² copper conductor, copper-wire screened, steel-wire armoured (SWA) 11 kV cable; 3 × 300 mm² Cu / XLPE / CWS / STA / PVC, 6.35/11 kV; single-core 630 mm² aluminium, aluminium-wire armoured (AWA) 11 kV feeder cable. Send the schedule in whichever form you hold it — mm² or kcmil, IEC or BS — and we confirm the equivalent construction and issue the offer.

§05 — Quality testing

What we test on every drum.

Routine tests run on every drum; sample tests on each batch; type tests on new constructions witnessed by CNAS-accredited third-party labs.

Type tests are carried out at independent, CNAS-accredited third-party laboratories — for example the Qingdao Product Quality Testing Research Institute (CNAS L1184), which issued the type test report for our LSZH control cable (report No. 202521001018). The routine test report for your drum is issued with the shipping documents; the type test report for the construction is available on request with the formal offer. We quote the report number and attach the measured values page rather than describing results in words.

§06 — Packaging & delivery

Drums sized for the cable, not for the workshop.

Drums sized so the minimum bending radius is preserved during shipping and re-spooling. Wooden drums with fumigation marks for export; steel-plywood drums for heavy cross-sections. Cable ends sealed with heat-shrink caps; shipping marks per the buyer’s format.

Standard drum lengths: 500 / 1000 / 1500 / 2000 m. Lead time: 25–35 working days for stocked constructions; 40–55 working days for project-specific builds.

§07 — FAQ

Common questions on 11 kV cable procurement.

What is the U₀/U rating of 11 kV XLPE cable?

6.35 / 11 kV. U₀ is the rated phase-to-earth voltage, U the phase-to-phase value. The cable suits systems whose maximum operating voltage does not exceed 12 kV. Confirm the earth-fault factor of your system with the utility and we confirm the class.

What conductor cross-sections are available?

Three-core: 25–400 mm². Single-core: 25–630 mm². Copper or aluminium, class 2 stranded; sector-shaped conductors for large 3-core sizes.

Can the cable be direct-buried?

Yes. The armoured construction (STA) with PVC ST2 outer sheath is rated for direct burial. SWA is recommended where tensile load or rodent risk is high.

What is the partial discharge limit?

≤ 10 pC measured at 11 kV (1.73 U₀) per IEC 60502-2. PD is measured on every drum and documented on the routine test report.

What routine and type tests are performed?

Routine on every drum: conductor DC resistance, AC voltage withstand AC 22 kV / 5 min, sheath spark test. Sample: PD, insulation thickness, screen check. Type: bending + voltage, load cycle, impulse voltage 95 kV.

Can the cable be supplied with LSZH sheath?

Yes, for tunnel, metro, data centre and indoor substation use. Verified against IEC 61034 (smoke density) and IEC 60754 (acid gas).
